Tektronix value?
I've been offered a Tektronix 7603 mainframe with spectrum analyser plug in, clean, fully working condition.
What would it be worth?

Re: Tektronix value?
the main-frame, maybe £50 if its in nice nick.
The spectrum analysers are well overpriced and a PITA to work on, IMO A 7L5 is usually the cheapest, maybe upto £500. Save your money and buy a HP3585 for baseband dc PS. I believe its better to get the main-frame with an SA graticule ... |

Re: Tektronix value?
A 7313 with standard plug ins, working, just got £68 on ebay, as for the spectrum analyser don't think I would pay £500 for the 7L5, a 7L14 yes, but the 7603 isn't a storage mainframe. Best thing is that once on the path of Tek 7000 ownership you can buy all the other plug ins, nice scopes, large so easy to work on. I personally am not keen on most of what HP made, all those custom labelled components get a real pain in the end.

Re: Tektronix value?
Yes, it is a 7L5 analyser, along side something called an MWH? Also with it is a scope trolley and probes. Looks like a reasonable buy at £50 then?

Re: Tektronix value?
You could probably sell the spectrum analyser and get a scope frame for a negative price.
In oscilloscopes, Tek are the industry standard, in spectrum analysers, it's HP. There's a decoder sheet for the HP stock numbers on components and for most parts there is wiggle room to use equivalents. The HP3585 only goes up to 40MHz and it's a bit of a complex beastie with a first generation API fractional-N frequency synthesiser in it. Very good for audio and video frequencies, though. The HP 8590 family are portable and the lowest one covers to 1500MHz. Some are synthesised, some are not. It all hinges on what's available. David

Re: Tektronix value?
I took the plunge! I was being cautious because the guy selling it can't confirm it is fully working, despite initially saying it was! What he meant was, it powers up and stuff appears on the screen! Anyway, it's coming out of a high end lab and has been kept in clean conditions all it's life with apparently very little use. So I'm thinking it has to be worth a punt, the trolley and probes are worth what I'm paying anyway. So I'm picking it up on Saturday, fingers crossed it's all good. If it is I'll be looking for scope plug in's!

Re: Tektronix value?
For plugins, try and get :-
7B53A dual time base 100MHz 7A26 - 2 channel 5V-5mV @ 200MHz 7A22 - Differential 10V-10uV @ 1MHz + filters Not so good, but OK 7A13 - Differential @ 100MHz (full of flaky relays and drifts a bit) 7A24 - 2 channel @ 400MHz (50ohm input) dc |
