Pilot T 405 replacement caps.
Hi All,
I'm in the process of renovating a 1940 Pilot T 405 and have come across some Hunts caps which,in my limited experience seem to have an unusually high DC working voltage. Working off Trader Sheet no. 492,they are as follows: C9 AF coupling to V3 Triode. (0.001). C11 Part of variable tone control. (0.01) C12 V3 triode to V4 AF coupling. (0.01) They are all rated at 2000v. Can I safely use 1000v. or 1500V. replacements as these seem to be much easier to source or must I stick rigidly to the original spec.? Your thoughts please. Re: Pilot T 405 replacement caps.
Yes, you can! No problem, as the set only produces about 300v maximum anyway. The 630v ones you can get will do!
Cheers, Steve P.

Re: Pilot T 405 replacement caps.
Why did they use such overated caps in the first place, could it be that at the height of the war the correct ones were in short supply?

Either that or they were cheaper!
