PYE MP40 - Just purchased today
Hi All
I have just purchased a lovely Pye MP40 Took it home and gave it a polish,it looks absolutely like new, barely a mark on it. What a result! I have never worked on a set this old before,(about 1940 I believe),all my limited experience has been on 1950's sets. If anyone can offer any advice or tips I would be very grateful. I havent plugged it in yet, will do all the usual checks before doing so. I have a current limiter so it will have some protection. The supply lead is badly frayed so needs to be replaced,it looks like the twisted cord that you used to get on the old black GPO telephones in the 50's This set is so good that I want to keep it as authentic as possible. Does anyone know where I could purchase some of this cord from? Thanks Alan |

Ah, so you bought it in the end
Service data is available from VRSD at top right and this thread contains some information on flex. Working on it shouldn't be difficult, the obvious difference when compared to 1950s sets being the prewar valves. I forget now if the loudspeaker is a permanent magnet type or mains energised, I think the former but you'll soon know. |

Hi Darren,
Thanks for the info. I have already downloaded a Trader sheet and checked the thread for a supplier of flex. Savoy Hill look to do exactly what I'm after so I'll contact them. Once again many thanks for your help. Alan |
