Default Thurlby DSA524 digital storage adaptor

Hi folks

I just rescued two of these from the work skip. I've never used one, and they're a bit daunting - anyone familiar?

They light up OK and seem to do sensible things in a scope-y sort of way (input sensitivity LEDs cycle OK, trig functions and time base look like they might work again based on what LEDs do as you push buttons...), but I don't know how to connect to a scope to see if I get a display. And of course I have no idea how to use the memory functions or even (I think this is beyond me) download data down an RS232 into something else.

At least one of these will end up in my charity sell-up. It might be fun to find out if they work first, and learn a bit about them.

There's plenty on the net about these Mark. There was one offered near me a year or so ago and if only for the quantity of lights and buttons to press I should have bought it really. At the time when researching what they do I did read about the EPROM failing or something like that but I guess you can find that info as well as I can.

I'd love to find one of those! All those knobs and lights would keep me amused for days over Christmas!!

Karl, I couldn't get that page to download, but here is another one which seems to work:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/dsa...e=typ_redirect

Richard - at least one will be available, feel free to make an offer (all for charity as per forum rules) by PM, or two offers in the case of a unit which turns out to work, or not to work! In the latter case, it will be well beyond my capabilities to fix!

Now I seem to have a manual I can have more of a play to see what happens. The manual is nice - user tutorial, discussion of aliasing, all sorts.

I have original copies of both the Operating Manual v1 and v2.
The screen captures in the v2 manual are poor compared with the one in v1.
I've attached my scanned copy of the v2 manual with the captures replaced with those from v1. (It's also in searchable format.)

Sorry I don't have a better copy of the service manual.

For completeness I've added the original DS-PC link software (for DOS) and the cable used.

One thing to watch on these units is the nicad memory battery leaking and taking the tracks out, they are still available so an easy swap..

Which is exactly what has happened to mine. I have repaired the tracks and it seems to work basically though that was trying to view it on a scopemeter which isn't really appropriate. My analogue scope is in the loft though.
