Re: Radio Workshops (Now with a poll).
Hi peoples
I could do with some help to get a 22 set & 19 set up and running so will bring these sweeties to work on and save the 1131 for the next event. My dietary needs are pork pie, ham butty and coffee with biscuits (bourbon)! Cheers Chris |

Re: Radio Workshops (Now with a poll).
Hi Sean,
Great idea, if it is the 27th I'd like to come - if there is space left. Otherwise, being local, happy to be a reserve for the day in case anyone drops out. TYJ

Re: Radio Workshops (Now with a poll).
The date is in the diary! Plenty on the 'round tuit' pile, tv or radio, the difficulty will be deciding what to bring!

Re: Radio Workshops (Now with a poll).
This is a great idea. However, with a round-trip travelling time of over six hours for me to and from the 'inaugural venue' in the south-east, can I enquire whether there are any other Midlands-based Forum members who would be interested in a workshop in this area? It's just possible that the Black Country Museum in Dudley could be persuaded to host such a workshop, based around their recently-opened Gripton's Wireless Store set in 1939.
I'll sound out the Curator in the next few days. Phil

Re: Radio Workshops (Now with a poll).
As of today the following 16 people have said they will attend on 27th Feb
a223bfg, Andrewausfa, audiomagpie, glowinganode, Guitarist28, Horris, Hybrid tellies, Ian B, Paul Stenning, raditechman, Ricardo, robjkmannering, Sean Williams, slidertogrid, Steve_P, tis your junk This is fine, I will be contacting you all via PM with booking details either Monday, or Tuesday evening. At present the event will be organised under the umbrella of Rusty Radios (that way we have PL insurance....) You will certainly need to bring the following on the day. Soldering Iron, and solder Basic hand tools Extension lead/multi plug thingy Your chosen victim some spares you think you may need relevent specialised test gear Some form of multimeter - we like AVOs, but will work with anything that is safe Please can I ask all of you attending to do a basic safety check on all mains powered equipment you wish to use (extensions, test gear, and soldering gear) check mains leads, earthing is correct, and correct fuses being used - if any attendee is unsure I am happy to check them on the day - Please note we do not condone "death leads" - anyone using equipment that is obviously unsafe will be publically flogged, and made to repair it before continung! If you need specific parts and are struggling for a source, please post in this thread, and if I have it, and can spare it, you can have it! If any of you have questions get them to me sooner than later - I start callout at the end of this week, and will be unlikeley to answer quickly. The final cost of the workshop will be £15 each - this covers room hire, insurance, lunch and unlimited beverages (not from the bar I hasten to add!)

Re: Radio Workshops (Now with a poll).
Hi Sean,
Well, I try and avoid motorways these days - far too often, I've come too close to grief at the hands of other blind, mad or criminally negligent motorists - and MultiMap tells me it's over 3 hours each way by ordinary roads from here. I have just e-mailed my contact at the Black Country Museum and enquired whether they may be willing to make a venue available for a West Midlands, Worcestershire and central England workshop. I'll let you know what transpires. For what it's worth, I attended a relatively local Radiophile workshop many years ago which was probably the most interesting day I have ever spent in my life, and which proved to be the catalyst to my becoming more deeply involved in vintage radio restoration. We should all support any proposal that encourages newcomers into the movement! Phil

Re: Radio Workshops (Now with a poll).
Ok Eamonn - you are added, a DAC 90 is hardly going to push us for time - so will look forward to helping get that sorted!
I see Tim has sneaked in as well... I did ask for 15-20 attendees, seems like we might make that! If we average 3 sets each that will hopefully be 60 repairs in a day! We are up to 19 attendees now - going to be a fun day!

Re: Radio Workshops (Now with a poll).
For those of us too far away to attend would it be possible to have a (streaming) webcam looking over the general area of activity so that we can see the action (and the other members)
Cheers n Beers, David..... |
