Default BVWS Golborne Meeting - November 2nd 2014

Hello everyone,

No too long now until the Golborne Radio Meeting (see BVWS website for full details).

This will be held on Sunday 2nd November.

The stall bookings are good and this means lots of interesting stuff to search through and plenty of components and valves to be found at very good prices.

The usual BVWS tables of stock from the store will be there.
We have had so many collections to deal with recently, I will be 'packing' the van with plenty of nice radios and some TV's as well as test gear and comms. RX's.

The usual Capacitor stocks, both high voltage Electrolytic and high voltage Vishay Polypropylene's will be available for all vintage restoration work and very good prices.

We will have a small display of working 405 Line TV's with period programmes running throughout the day.

There will be a talk given by Keith who very kindly gives his time to prepare an interesting, informative and very useful hour or so of demonstrations and lecture.
This time the subject is "The basics of power supplies covering rectification, smoothing, regulated power supplies and thermal aspects".
As usual there will be demonstration units and an electronic hand-out.

Golborne is a small and friendly event where we not only welcome BVWS members, we positively encourage everyone to come and see what it is all about.

There are hot drinks and food available as well.

I look forward to seeing everyone there on the day.

Mike...

I always support this event, well worth attending. There aren't many events 'up north' and this is a very friendly and interesting event. Please support it.

That's a major reason why I give this event priority - even when it clashes with other events I would otherwise attend.

Just to say that my brother Phil and I are planning to [finally] make Golborne this time. I thought I'd left it far too late for another go at a Book/Mag based stall but Mark has very kindly offered us a table. It might be a bit chaotic as I'm not even in Rammy yet but we will do our best to bring "stuff" and offer it at a reasonable price. Mike Phelan usually supports name badge wearing so I'll bring mine. I know of at least three other Forum members who seem to be going along as well but I won't name them directly for fear of upset

I note that there is to be a lecture [as per the Rev Dobbs and his Rochdale Church events]. The TV demo is always very much worth the visit too.
As Mike B says "come one-come all".

I WILL be there this time. I've missed too many of these wonderful events.
As a bit of fun and to help me out I will be bringing a selection of components connectors etc I acquired form the estate of a retired TV engineer which I need help with identification.

I'll be there. I'll be the one in the side room talking about power supplies although I hope to have some time to take a look round before the talk.

I hope to start the talk around 11:30. All are welcome, no need to book!!

I don't want to sound like Keith's P.R. Agent, but having attended the two previous talks by Keith, (one on test gear such as using oscilloscopes - the other on alignment using signal generators and wobbulators), I must say that they're excellent. Keith goes to a lot of trouble in preparing the talks and setting up equipment, and also prepares excellent well-illustrated and well-written follow-up notes which formed the basis of his talks, which he will e-mail to any interested parties. Given that the Golborne Swapmeet is a small event, there's plenty of time for browsing/buying stuff before the talk, and a final trawl afterwards.

I'm looking forward to Keith's talk on 'Power Supplies', and I'm sure I'm not alone.

The cheque's in the post David

I'll be posting the notes on this and the Golborne forum next week so no need for email.

I've also had an idea for next years talk, assuming people want one, but I'll canvass opinion on Sunday.

Fingers crossed I'll be there - first time. I hope to have a table and I'll be bringing crates of valves (and a crated valve!) and assorted oddments along for the ride. The last time I sold anything at any such event was back in the '80's!

My stall will be the one with the Mr Bean Mascot, but I won't be in my classic mini but a Volvo estate full of Techno - tat.

Being a very new member of the BVWS I hope I can make it.
It all depends on how the missus is doing but hopeful I can get over for the day and find out what its about.

The events diary on the BVWS says its "BVWS members only" but above it is mentioned that anyone can attend.

I would like to come a see what it is all about, will I be welcome?

Definitely. It's a small and friendly meet and you're bound to see many forum members.

Everyone is welcome. You could even join BVWS.

We need to say "members only" for insurance etc as it's not advertised as open to the general public. In practice though anyone who wants to go would be welcome as a guest (at committee/organiser discretion but unless there are previous issues you are welcome)... and some may decide to join the society. At Golborne there is no advantage in being a member, but at other events with auctions only members can bid which is an obvious member benefit.
