Default Mickey Mouse at 90: radios

Mickey Mouse turned 90 this year. Whether you are a fan or not, there have been Mickey radios in production in the past. I have one that was made in the seventies, but does anyone have earlier models featuring this popular Disney character ?

Ah, the reason copyright keeps getting extended past creators death. 25, 50, 75 and now they want it extended again.
The Radio Museum has photos of a 1930s Mickey Mouse radio.

Iconic or genuinely popular?

Depends on your cultural upbringing I suppose. I can imagine that Americans think they're wonderful. I wonder what they would think of a Thomas the Tank Engine radio.

I have two of the blue transistor sets from memory they are around 4" x 4" x 1.5" one is older than the other (different style of character) unfortunately I can not find either. I did find a photo, possibly the one Mike refers to at the museum of a 1933 Emerson children's radio, taken from "Radio Art" by Robert Hawes.

There is a general resurgence in interest in Mickey Mouse memorabilia.

Here's my Mickey Mouse radio complete with box. These were being sold in the UK in the seventies and I got one of these as a birthday present once.

John.

Found them while looking for another radio. They are a little over 3" square. The one on the left has "Realistic Made in Hong Kong" printed on the paper label, the other was Made in China.

'Realistic' (especially when printed in that font) was a Tandy/Radio Shack brand name.

Yes I remember them well. Sadly went the way of Maplins.
