Default Eagle FMT640 FM tuner.

In my Pilot X65B thread I mentioned that the reason for fitting the phono socket was to connect up the Eagle FM tuner.

The Eagle FMT640 performs very well as so it should because it has four IF amplifier stages and a very efficient AFC system.
The valve line is: 6AQ8 RF amplifier and mixer. 6AQ8 AFC capacitive reactance and DC amplifier. Two 6BA6 vari-mu pentode IF amplifiers. 6AU6 IF amplifier. 6AU6 limiter. 6AL5 detector. All the valves were made by Hitachi.
An all transistor stereo decoder is fitted but is not connected into the circuit.

Date codes show that the tuner was manufactured in 1965.

I have a soft spot for Eagle products, just as do for Realistic stuff. Often very underrated.

I saw some 1970s Eagle speakers in the charity shop recently. I was astonished how heavy and well-built they were, with really good quality binding posts as opposed to the plasticy rubbish I was expecting.
