Well although not related to a mosfet reading on a transformer and the digression towards the speaker I thought I may as well let you know that the pye transformer fed speaker is now finished phew.
It's been completely stripped and returned to it's original colour and all brass work also stripped and polished. Some renewed screws and bolts as pointless rubbing paint off them easier to buy new. Transformer fully cleaned, re waxed on the windings wires on bobbins and readings are good now the speaker and transformer are connected I now have 3.6 ohms. Although I still think this would have had another transformer attached to the speaker chassis.
Used foam speaker surround as I found cloth/ leather not really suitable. It still has the original cone and coil although around 5mm of the cone had perished so was cut back and cone treated. Grade 2 enameled solid core copper used as per original spec.
Mahogany stripped sanded and waxed.
For those interested I'll post pics of finished product tomorrow.
It's still a shame that no one has seen one of these speakers before but I suppose it makes it a unique piece in that respect.
Hooked it up to my quad mono block and boom what a sound completely surprised me and I can see why these specialist speaker manafacturers are going back to making these speakers using the old original specifications.
Having also looked at full restoration costs for these speakers I've saved myself around £350 to £400.
Anyhow apologise for digressing but at least I know the transformer is not a mosfet.

I'll have to have a lookout for one you've got me very excited as it's been on occasion quite a chore although I don't think theres many around by the looks of it. So a Pye Electro Magnetic Dynamic LS (moving-coil with field excitation coil)
Shame no schematic on how to wire up the speaker properly.
I've had it running fine off the secondary but obviously the primary is not being used.
BIG THANK YOU

Managed to find a pair of Goodmans Sherwood cabinets been stripped but for 15 quid the pair no brainer it would cost more in just ply and other bits alone then all the hassle of building them.
Still I'll be housing the speaker in one cabinet here's some pics.
Cabinets are gonna be black with white top and white sides surrounding the baffle board. I'll also make up a baffle cover. Should sound nice in the cabinet get more bass although sound okay as is but it was originally in a radiogram in the lower cabinet.

All done sounds superb pretty good for a 90 year old speaker.
The sherwood cabinet is the perfect complement for this speaker and obviously a valve amp forget solid state amps definitely a no go.
So if you find one of these speakers I'd snap it up well worth the effort of a refurb. All that's not original is the foam surround as opposed to cloth.
Good luck if you can find one. As previously posted above only manafactured for the pye 350 console radiogram.
I'll keep it for a while as I'm enjoying the sound.
Some pics of it in the restored cabinet just used some paint I had lying around and new screws and bolts some sound proofing for the back panel and good quality speaker cable which again had lying around.
Enjoy.
Chris
