Default Vortexian Fifty Watt Amplifier

Anyone got a circuit or any other documentation for a Vortexian Fifty Watt Amplifier. The one I have uses OCTAL valves and two 807s in the output stage. I have a circuit for the B9A valve version, but it's the earlier version I'm looking for. Might be called a "Vortexian Super 50"?? and was made by Vortexian, Wimbledon in the 1940s. Thanks. The pictured amplifier does not appear to have 807s as the output pair, as there are no top caps - is this your amplifier or just a convenient online picture.

Vortexion advertised in WW - you may find an image that matches your amp - perhaps easiest to do a word search.

Even the radiomuseum valve list and photo aren't quite consistent, 6V6 are metal valves, their photo shows glass 6V6G 'coke-bottles', the straight sided glass version is 6V6GT. Shouldn't make any difference, though.

I have worked on these in the past and still have a 30/50 version that followed the super 50 version you have.

I will have a look for a circuit diagram - I did have a copy.

Vortexion equipment of this era tended to use a lot of what was available - I doubt that there was a definitive valve line up.

A CP20A sourced from the GPO in the early fifties and unlikely to have had valves changed had different makes of 6V6G in the output stage.....

Mods permitting here's a Vortexion 807 job using octals:

Schematic for a Vortexion Super 50 Watt that uses EF86's and ECC82 for anyone that wants it.

It's always confusing when a member posts a picture of an item which is not actually the item they're enquiring about. I've been caught out more than once and I bet I'm not the only one.

We'll have to wait until the OP returns and hopefully posts a picture of what he actually has.

MS660's schematic is interesting.

There are dual HT lines with different taps rectifiers and smoothing to handle the 807's difference in HT and screen voltage capabilities.

It has a transformer phase splitter.

Not unusual in PA amps of the period I think, especially from a company well versed in winding their own transformers.

It is the exact one as shown in 'radiomuseum' with the RM watermark removed - the naughty boy!

Is that breaking RM rules?

I agree that it is very confusing when people 'borrow' images and don't show a picture of what they've actually got. It wouldn't be so bad if they stated that it was just a 'stock' image - I wish people wouldn't do it.

The pictures are openly on the Web, so they can't be too precious about it. Maybe removing the watermark is a bit cheeky though! Schematics, on the other hand, aren't and we respect that. They are available on an individual basis if necessary so there is no need to post them here.

Maybe RM is the one being cheeky, clapping their ownership marks on other people's work?
