Default UV Eproms

Hi all,
I have used the old type (2732A etc) UV erasable Eproms for quite a few years now and always assumed that they needed a good twenty minutes or so in an eraser to clear their brain as it were. Last night I needed to reprogram one and put it in the eraser. After about a minute in the eraser I suddenly remembered that I needed to recheck the original data in it so pulled it out and tried to read it with my programmer. It was blank. So, the question is have I been wasting time waiting for twenty minutes or so when a couple of minutes would have done the job? I understand the intensity of the UV light would make a difference, but I wonder if the shorter erase time could make reprogramming unreliable. Has anyone any experience of this?
Alan.
