Default Fidelity record player

We've just got our hands on this media unit and have some issues with the speed on the record player. There is obviously a connection issue on the switch because it doesn't always switch off when in the off position but we aren't sure if this is causing the speed issue or if it's just part of the problem. How do we get to anything to fix this and what do we need to fix?

The first thing you need to do is screw in the transit screws on the record deck.

The connection seemed to be worse when the deck was floating

What you have there is an early 1980s stack system/music centre. Can't see the maker's badge clearly but it looks like Amstrad, Alba, Binatone or Fidelity.

This deck is a P267, one of BSR's last record decks, not well made, and that 33-45-OFF switch always gave problems. You will need to spray the contacts with cleaner spray such as servisol (maplin sell it IIRC).

The rubber drive belt will almost certainly have lost some of its elasticity by now and will need replacing, especially if there is unstable speed. But accessing that is a different procedure so I won't overwhelm you at this stage.

For access to the switch mentioned, you will have to remove the back panel if present, or maybe side screws and carefully slide the amp/electronics out of the way enough to be able to access the deck underside. Post back if help needed!
