And a very good reason why you shouldn't use a single RCD to protect an entire installation. Though that's a subject that's probably a bit OT for this forum.

All the very best with it. They give a cracking picture.

I was impressed with how quickly the auction cashing up got back up to speed, and the good humour shown by the waiting queue. I think we were all grateful for the extra time to limber up before attempting to lift any of the items from in front of the stage...

I was very sad to have been prevented at short notice. Having travelled down from Cumbria to Oxford, the family member with whom I was staying (and who had been intending to come as my guest) became unwell and felt unable to come and unwilling to be left on her own all day.

Incidentally, what happened about the televisor parts in the auction?

Funny, I had guessed about £5K for the prewar TV.

I had a wonderfull time. This is only my second visit to WB. A very friendly atmosphere. The auction is a pleasure to witness. Thank's Mike for making it so entertaining. I was pleased with my winning bid. Four not so elegant radio's for £10. They will keep me amused for some time to come. Looking forward to the next one. Thank's to everyone who helped to make it such a succesfull day.

I certainly was, having been lifting stuff for most of the afternoon.

Dave,
the Bird Televisor parts were pulled from auction, as no reasonable starting offer could be achieved.

I sort of inferred something along those lines from the lack of comment - so thanks for confirming.

I totally agree with sorting a back up supply for the computer. That would allow us to plug our purchases in 'just to see' with only the possibility of a black out.
Alternatively I could set up a stall in the car park with a 500kv generator to 'safety test' the purchases of guys with a nervous disposition. £10 plus vat. Cheap at twice the price...

A great day and I enjoyed every minute! Regards, John.

I know you have a reputation to maintain, John, but do you really mean 500,000 volts?

Perhaps 240 volts at 500VA might be safer.

Hello,

I was at the Wootton Bassett event on Sunday and it was good to see many folk from the forum there. Some of the lots went for the highest prices I've ever seen at a radio auction, amazing.

Anyway, my budget was somewhat more modest but I came away with a little gem of an art-deco radio set, a 1933 SBR 345 Ondolinette superhet. It's one of the smallest tombstone radios I've seen, and it's not French, it's Belgian !

Yes, nice little set Howard, a very clean example. I was tempted myself, but I was rather drawn to the little green Crosley "Bullseye" on Steves stall which just about cleaned out my budget for the day.

Actually you are correct. 500 watts would be more in keeping with vintage radio and TV but I never do 'safe' things and like to see a few sparks and flashes..Oh and my reputation went up in flames years ago..Cheers, John.
