Default Vintage JVC decorative desk lamp

See photo attached.
A friend of mine got a stylish little vintage item. It's a small desk lamp with a special lamp where the filament (not sure if this is the correct word) forms text "JVC Micro Components" (or Mini components, can't remember which).

The lamp is a bit bigger than a normal lightbulb, uses a standard base (connector) and is rated 240v. Sometimes most of the text (but not all) lits up but usually fails after a few seconds and may come back up randomly. Not all the letters "work" and the material is darker than in the working letters. Is there any chance of improving it?

Good looking item anyway; does anyone have any further info about it?

The lamp was connected to mains overnight and now it stays on! (At least those letters that work, few of them are still dark).

This is a type of neon lamp where phosphors are deposited upon various features of the design to make them glow when the lamp is energised. The phosphors deteriorate very rapidly with regular use, the inside of the bulb is also prone to blackening within a few weeks. This type of lamp is still available in "Habitat" in various designs, they are OK if not used excessively.
