Default Philips N4308 Serial Numbers

Whilst browsing, I did once come across a member who was very knowledgeable regarding serial numbers/dates of manufacture etc of Philips tape decks.

Does anybody know who he is or is their anyone else that can assist me in finding out the production date of my N4308.

Thank you.

I certainly can. Depending on the date of manufacture (roughly before or after 1975), the date code is on a separate label or in the serial number itself. If the serial number on the type label is only 5 to 7 digits long, you'll have to look for a second label with two letters, two digits and three digits of which the latter indicate the year and week of production. This label might be in the mains cord compartment. In case of doubt, you could just post some pictures.

Also to establish information in the long term about the number produced and dating without the second label, I'd be interested in all numbers (including full model number with suffix) in either case.

Should this be of any interest to you, here is the motor serial number.

The /55 in the model number, suggests the second version for the UK market (for example mark II or a different cosmetic design). WR03 113, means the 3rd revision from the Vienna factory, manufactured in 1971, week 13.

The number 4322 010 00780 on the motor is a factory internal part number, which is useful to know since it's never used in the service manuals but always appears on the part itself. W02 09 71 means it was the second revision from the Dordrecht, Netherlands factory manufactured in week 9 of 1971.

Here are the serial numbers of the motor and the deck of my latest acquisition (N4308/85)

Now having the information on how to ascertain the manufacturing information (kindly submitted by Maarten in the Netherlands) am I correct in thinking that 444 is the 44th week of 1974 (not sure what the WT 05 code is and the motor was manufactured in the 40th week of 1974?

You're quite right on both dates!

WT05 means it's the 5th design revision from the other Vienna factory (there were 3, 2 of which produced audio and video recorders at the time - WD was the radio/tv factory which later switched to video recorders exclusively).
