Default GEC Selectest Meter Super 50 MKIII

Does any one know, what batteries the GEC Selectest Meters used, do they require a high voltage type like the big AVO`s ?

Yes they do - The same B121 as used in the AVO 8.

These are good meters, broadly comparable with the AVO 8, but never achieved the ubiquity. I'm almost tempted to start a Selectest survey thread!

One difference is that the Selectest 50 needs both 15V and 1.5V batteries to be present for the x100 ohms range to work, they're used in series for 16.5V nominal- presumably this simplifies the switching. The AVO 8 just needs the15V battery for thisrange to work.

Let us know if you do decide to start a thread - I have about 6 of these meters and one of the things that intrigues me is that some have a red surround on the meter zeroing adjustment screw and some have a black. Just what components they had at the time or marking significant variations?? Also I've never yet managed to find a schematic/circuit diagram for them - must have existed surely??
