Default Spinney Tape Recorder -Offer For Sale

Hello I am new to this site so not sure if I an posting this in the right area.

I am offering for sale a Spinney Tape Recorder Model 103L.
Unsure of the date of manufacture but it must be at least 55+ years old so I guess 1950's. Selling as is, as pictured, for restoration, as tape rotates on spindles but too slow. It needs some TLC. Collection only from Farnborough, Hampshire. Price 40

I vaguely remember that "Spinney" was the trade name used by one of the mail order catalogues of the '60s. A firm such as Littlewoods, but NOT them. Somebody had an account, and friends, neighbours and relatives could buy with typically 20 weeks credit.
I will be made by somebody else. It looks a bit Cossor or Philips to me.
Les.

Surely the deck mechansim is that well-known BSR one? In which case it's unlikely to be Philips (or Cossor, which at that time was essentially a brand name used by Philips) as they made their own mechanicals.

Yes, the deck is indeed the BSR TD2.

It's a very basic, low-priced machine, but one that should be simple to resurrect.

I have to say that the asking price is very optimistic though. Sorry!

Hope it finds a good home,

Nick.

Looks to be in very good cosmetic condition from the photos but 40 is as already said a little on the high side.

It was Littlewoods, apparently. A "spinney" is a "little wood"...
