Re: KB ER30 radio
I have the radio all back together, it was difficult getting the top screws in to fix the chassis in.
Just a small repair to do in the back panel where a couple of bits have cracked. Here are a few photos taken after a good clean and polish. I think I will take it outside tomorrow and take some more photos, the shape of the cabinet makes it very difficult to avoid light reflections from the 2 lamps on my room. I have taken some videos of the radio being used to scan up and down the wave bands. I will post them up tomorrow for anyone who is interested in seeing it perform. Mike |

Re: KB ER30 radio
Probably a trick of the camera but the right side to rail above the mains transformer looks overheated if not slightly charred. I wonder if the original mains transformer went up in smoke? J.

Re: KB ER30 radio
Hi John
Well something went wrong with the original mains transformer, but I suspect that blackened area is mainly caused by the heat rising from the rectifier and OP valve and attracting dirt there. I have taken some better pictures outside, you can see them here. http://www.kbmuseum.org.uk/kb_images/er30/er30.htm I have also uploaded a video of the radio taken last night demonstrating the crowded MW band. https://youtu.be/Jsxpa8tSAt0 . As mentioned before tuning the many close stations is tight but it is quite possible to resolve the many stations with care. Mike Last edited by crackle; 13th Jul 2018 at 8:08 am. |

Re: KB ER30 radio
Here are a videos 2 LW, and 3 SW.
Scanning through the LW band from 142 to 410kHz, when I reached the end of the beacons I tuned back a little to search again for RTE, which the radio was picking up very well before, but found it was off air for this video. https://youtu.be/ff3b2_2LYI4 Scanning through the SW band from 5.8 to 18.4MHz. https://youtu.be/Lzf0urAyxio Mike |
