New Sky channel talking pictures.
Has any one one seen the new channel on Sky called "Talking pictures"? Full of old films from the 40's and 50's.

Re: New Sky channel talking pictures.
Yes, it looks interesting, it is on Freeview Ch 81 too, but only if you have a DVB-T2 (i.e. HD) receiver.
I've noticed there are a couple of other SD channels on Freeview that are only receivable on a DVB-T2 receiver. It would not surprise me if all channels migrate to this format in a few years to save capacity - making loads of receivers and STBs obsolete. Paul |

Re: New Sky channel talking pictures.
Are DVB-T2 set top boxes available? or does this mean that DVB reception becomes locked to packaged TV sets or recorders?

Yes, there are quite a lot of DVB-T2 set top boxes on sale. Argos do them for example

Re: New Sky channel talking pictures.
As alluded to earlier any Freeview HD box does DVB-T2 by default (and DVB-T , SD & HD)

....only if you have a DVB-T2 (i.e. HD) receiver.
That explains why I couldn't find the channel on the tv card in the computer but it was on my hd tv. |

Re: New Sky channel talking pictures.
I love this channel for the memories it evokes of an era when I was growing up in the 50s and 60s.....the street scenes, the cars, the fashions, home decor, policemen clipping kids round the ear, etc etc etc
Yesterday I was watching Diana Dors in Tread Softly Stranger from 1958 and one scene features the blonde bombshell exercising to music on a Bush portable - I guess it's an MB60 - a bit of internet trawling found the attached still Alvin |

I have an HD receiver, but unfortunately my local transmitter (Sudbury) doesn't carry this channel.

It's also available on Freesat but not yet on EPG so needs to be manually entered.
