Default Ekco restored!

Just like to share my restoration of my Ekco PT378 (1961).

After reading Paul Stenning's restoration of his Ekco (thanks for the info for dismantling) I set to work, removing chassis, speaker and all trim.

First tackling the chassis. Oh dear, broken wavechange switch... luckily the broken bits of Paxolin were in the bottom of the case; with a lot of patience I managed to Araldite them back in to position.

While waiting for glue to dry I cleaned the cabinet and speaker grille (I find Flash spray kitchen cleaner & an old toothbrush excellent for this). Forty-seven years of grime now removed I decided to follow Paul's idea of polishing all the brass trim (this took over an hour, but well worth it ), now time to re-assemble the case which was an easy task.

Back to the chassis, after powering up on my psu I was pleased to find my repair to the wavechange switch was a success, but now to sort out the tuning cap (touching veins) this was straightforward, time to refit the chassis and tuning knob..... job done, now a very nice little set which sounds and looks better than I'd hoped for. See pics below.

Very nice bit of work there, Mark. You are obviously proud of your handiwork, and so you have every right to be.
Well done. Keep it up!
Regards
Tony

Well done Mark,

These are nice little radios, and usually come up nice and work well. I've restored 13 of them so far.

You did a great job Mark, really nice! Do you ever take photos before you start your restorations?

Those labels were the norm in these sets and I once had the Ferranti equivalent which contained that very same label. Fifty or so years on, they've often gone missing so it's good to see yours surviving to make the radio complete.
