Default Fuse confusion

The fuse at the top is your standard 3AG fuse the middle fuse is 20mm long and the last one is approx 15mm or 5/8" long - which of the 2 smaller fuses is 2AG.

I have a 1970's Rotel stereo receiver with damaged speaker fuse holders, I replaced them both with 2 mini cartridge fuse holders from my used spares box assuming them to be regular 2AG types, one of the fuses at 250mA was well under the required 1.5A and eventually blew, on trying to replace it I realised it was smaller than my 'small' 2AG fuses and I had nothing that would fit - going online I checked Ebay first - most sellers were calling the 20mm fuse 2AG - on the USA Ebay however sellers were calling a 15mmx4.5mm fuse 2AG.

I couldn't locate any of the smaller fuses here in Australia and trying to track down a suitable replacement fuse online with out paying $35 for shipping became too hard and I eventually ordered a pack of 3AG fuse holders that will fit without too much modification.

Sorry about the layout, thats from their website. They are in sydney. They have a paper catalogue the size of a telephone directory, a mem stick and on line. To deal with them you need an account as above.

I been dealing with them for 40 years. EXCELLENT company, and I am not involved with them in any way.

Hope this helps

The fuse designation SFE-4 or AGA is 5/8" long (15.9mm) and 1/4" diameter end caps.

That smallest fuse looks like the size used in lots of Clansman ancillaries. I have not found a UK source for them.

After 60 years of fuse usage, 45 yrs in professional coms et alia maintenance, I can advise you that the best approach is to check the parts manual for type, or accurately measure the physical fuse before you go searching for replacements.
Use a vernier caliper, not a school ruler.
For instance, there are 6mm fuses, and 1/4 inch fuses.
It is a fuse maze out there.
You will find a suitable fuse.
I usually try to use original fuses, or change the holder to suit 20x5 mm (M205) or 3AG, which are common and readily available in a bewildering variety.

Very good luck to you.

Do you require a Fast 1.5 Amp or an Anti-Surge 1.5 Amp fuse?

Yes the little ones are Belling-Lee [also made as a second-source in significant numbers by Brush Switchgear in Loughborough...] used extensively in 1950s/1960s UK military gear like the STC R4187 T1488 V-bomber transceiver and Racal RA217/MA323 RTTY receiver.

Though the fuses are now deeply obsolescent, fortunately B-L also produced panel-mount and chassis-mount fuseholders which were externally identical in appearance and dimensions but which took more-mainstream/current-production 20mm fuses.

[I happily 'modernised' the holders on my RA217/MA323 purely for future convenience]

Well that pdf explains why they're difficult to find, the company listed at the bottom of the page is "BLP/Dialight", they ditched a lot of the older product lines including relays & switches.

hanks for all the replies and thanks Joe for the WES link - I did at one time have a WES account but now go to Wagner if I can't find what I want from Jaycar or Ebay.
The Belling Lee PDF calls them size 00, and WES components has them as SGB - what ever the 15mm fuses are called it remains that they are not readily available which is not ideal, the replacement fuse holders arrived yesterday they take the 20mm fuses, a more practical solution.
