Philips : 'Simply years ahead' I thought (and google seems to agree) that 'The quality goes in before the name goes on' was Zenith. 'Nothing sucks like Electrolux' was corrupted to 'Nothing sucks like a Vax' and was applied to something other than vacuum cleaners. |

About on a par with Apple’s ‘Think different’ Time has long past since the copywriter in an ad agency might have an English degree from a ‘good’ university but this malaise pervades at the highest levels, i.e. ‘Stay home’ instead of ‘Stay at home’ and ‘social distancing’ when what is meant is ‘physical distancing’. |

"The future is bright, the future is Orange." Don't think that quite worked out as planned.

Not quite a memorable tag-line, but I remember the big Song & Dance routines based on 'That's Amore' used by Granada Rentals in the 70s and 80s:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7ZvAQNjVSc And "Get to know the Rumbelows - We save you money and serve you right", but I never saw this one featuring Kenny Everett: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHjdKvGHKDw SR |

Good old Clive Sinclair's "Quantum Leap" advert for the QL, a quantum leap is the smallest step possible!
In my opinion any company that needs to advertise is not on my list. |

A couple from a much earlier period.
'Perfect picture. Perfect sound. Ask your dealer for Peto Scott' [1959] 'Melony, tea time and fetch the television. [KB Featherlight] The handles used to break. 'So simple to use even the cat can use it' John Cleese, Sony C7 Betamax video. [Actually the cats peed on them!] John. |

Now then: I'm pretty sure Hitachi used "In a word, reliability." The animated sequence from the original Duracell adverts has stuck with me, along with the clang as the top swings shut. I don't remember any of the blurb. But there was a rabbit which displayed impressive stamina... |

The Memorex cassette tape ads showing a recording of a singer breaking a wine glass.
The short-lived Philips ads on commercial radio in the 1970's where the salesman mis-pronounced the name as "Phirrips" in an attempt to hook a customer who wanted something Japanese. Apparently Philips HQ in Holland were not amused and ordered Philips UK to pull the plug on it. |

Re: Memorable vintage advertising.
The one I always remember, but only as a small ad in the Mail (and perhaps some others) was the PYE X's 625 = 1964. Yes, it works. I don't think the symbol was used for pi, but Pye as I wrote. I wonder which bright spark thought it up.

A couple of more obscure ones;
Philips DCC "Your music will never be the same." Start the EL-VOLUTION: Elcaset from Sony

Ooops - Thanks for the correction, that tune's a much better match and clearly the obvious choice!

Re: Memorable vintage advertising.
Hacker's "The Final Choice" was at least concise. Back in '38 RGD produced a lavish catalogue proudly declaring their products to be "For those who cannot pardon the imperfect", a slogan I've always thought too redolent of eugenics to have made a comeback after WWII.

Re: Memorable vintage advertising.
Who remembers
"Go for Bush, and you're set for life" I certainly don't, but I snapped this sign in Gibraltar, a place known for being in a time warp.

Re: Memorable vintage advertising.
Yes, around the time the Ferguson ads were running there was a break in at Previn's house and the papers gleefully reported that his Japanese TV and video had been stolen!
