Here's a P170. Basically a C129r1 /r2 with no overarm, so made into an auto single play unit.

One that I haven't noticed in the list is the Monarch Prince. Very similar to the UA6 but only "semi automatic". The record size being selected by the lever at the rear and no switch off cycle,it just repeated the last record which must have been very annoying. I have only seen these in the Regentone Multi99 mk1, the mk 2 had the UA6,Easily changed as it used the same motor board cut out .
I must admit to being surprised by the mention of a UA16. When I wrote to BSR in the mid 60s ,along with other companies including Garrard, HMV etc,using a fib that I was doing a project for school, I got back a lot of information on their then available changers and tape decks, TD2 and TD4. They supplied leaflets on each deck. The UA15 was the same as the one used in the Bush SRP31d we had at school,and was available in slate grey/blue and played up to 10 records. Then there was the UA15s, s for slim. in brown and also other colours and played upto 8 ,designed for the trend in slim line radiograms etc. This is the one that a modified version of was used in the PYE Achoic. Then the UA15ss ,ss = super slim and the UA15ss1d etc, designed for portable record players giving an even slimmer case and so easier to carry and played up to 6 records. The next one was the UA25, available in blue /light grey and also brown, a more economical version than the UA15xx. I just wish I still had those leaflets as there was no mention of a UA16.

That's a rare one that I've never seen in over 35 years of being interested in record players, thank you for bringing it to our attention.

I wonder what the perceived advantage was over the UA6 with its Magidisk selector?

I found these pictures while trawling the net some time ago and am only just getting around to uploading them The deck seems to be a transition model between the UA8 and UA12 but single play. Or perhaps BSR was just running out stocks of surplus UA8 parts and mixing them with the newer model. A further possibility is that the original arm got replaced by a third party at some point. Either way, I've not seen this combo before.

I did have the BSR "Prince" changer pictured and described above in one of the two Regentone "99" models I have. A truly stupid and annoying design, put right of course by the UA6. To repeat the last record in a stack indefinitely is just plain silly, wonder indeed what they were thinking of. It got replaced by a Collaro Conquest deck, never originally specified for that model but a worthy successor to the BSR.

There were versions of the UA6 with plastic and metal arms, and the Pye Black Box had a special badge on the arms of the version of the deck used in it.

Here's a real oddity. A single player with what looks like the HF42 platter and headshell from the UA15-SS, on an arm used on the later 70s single play models P-1

I have one like the 4th in the first gallery with a dead motor - any common, obvious problems with these? It's in a record player with NO internal access! I had to get the jigsaw out and cut a hole in the bottom! No manufacturer admits to making it either - anyone come across this shy and retiring maker before?

The Bush SRP31D was fitted with the UA16, not the UA15. Easy to confuse the two, unless you have them together.

It's a UA16, which is identical cosmetically, but with a taller record spindle, and a higher arm mounting, allowing more records to be stacked.

What a fascinating thread! To add to this I can find no mention of the UA10 autochanger which was a blend of the UA8 and the later UA12/14. Like the UA8 it still had the "N" position on the speed control, the overarm was still to the left and the unit usually had a blue/grey finish. Made for a short time from 1958 to 1959 and used mainly in Dansette "Majors" of that time. The UA16 can be distinguished by its "unique" colour cheme over the UA15. These were Dark Blue Metallic and a Black version and made as OEM units for Bush and Murphy record players and radiograms. In terms of the later UA25 (and I agree this was the logical sucessor to the UA14, not the far bette UA15/16) in mid production the gauge of the pressed steel turntable was reduced by 33% so it had less mass and free spnning capability. What's known as "value engineering". Going back in time we can find the 1953 GU4 "Regent" 3 speed single player with the (heavy) bakelight arm and the TC4 crystal cartridge - built like a battleship. Then by 1954/55 came the cream HF100 version with a 10" plastic turntable which was prone to warping. I could go on, but less I appear over-indulgent, I will stop for now! Edward

Fidelity also used the metallic blue UA16 (as used in the Bush SRP31D)
in their top of the range record player, made around 1964/5. I can't recall the model number, but it featured an ECL 86 output valve, separate bass and treble controls and a large loudspeaker.
