I have a slightly different version of this deck from the very late 70s, mine is much flashier and has FAKE strobe segments on the platter, both on the outer edge and on the inner aluminium disc around the spindle

the strobe pattern is fake because it's been designed randomly and has no relation with the actual speed of the platter and mains frequency. There are two rows of segments and the inner one just has twice the number of segments of the outer row and of course it's useless.

I think they could have done it right at no additional cost, but maybe a real strobe pattern would show that the deck isn't running at the exact correct speed

There was also a further evolution of this same deck with a S shaped arm, still with the same fake counterweight!

The BSR C129 R2 in post #50.. Does it have a cueing lever?
If not the model I saw in the family Ferguson Studio 7 Music Centre was a C141 as I do recall it had anti-skate.

I had a Fidelity UA15 record player. It had the same deck with the following on the label:
C129R1-K-1
WC.3897/385
0.24.S.L.8
The major issues I had with that was a SX6M cartridge with a hardened notch thingy the stylus shank rests on. Eventually it dawned on my why the SX6M was so particular about styli & it was junked in favour of a SC12H clone from Tandy.
This was 1993 and I think BSR had ceased trading then. Astec (BSR) PLC in Wollaston, Stourbridge West Midlands.
The Ferguson was surplus to requirements around then & I thought about robbing it for the turntable & of course I did not know it was a variant of the same model
In the end I did not bother, because it looked like the slimmer arm only accepted a SC12H cartridge.
My letter to BSR was answered by a gentleman in Shifnall, Shropshire, which was why I assumed BSR had gone 'pop'. The gent did supply a Xerox of BSR technical data on stereo cartridges though.
The Fidelity I considered to be a step up from a Portadyne suitcase with a C129-C-1 (post #1 pic #4). The Portadyne was must have had a single valve, excl rectifier because it had a X5H cartridge.

Re Found my Fidelity UA10 record player. Couple of problems (other than the dirt and dust for where it got stored - I fixed it up about 5 years ago for a friends friend whom then changed their mind about wanting it).

Almost certainly a duff stylus I'd say.

The tips can get chipped, or completely knocked off sometimes, just leaving the stump to which they were bonded protruding from the metal cantilever.

I don't think the horizontal offset of one tip compared with the other has anything to do with it.

Anyone ID this deck, fitted in a late 60s HMV 2346 'gram? I've also seen a later variant fitted to an ultra tabletop record player from circa '74.

Ben, I have this same deck in the 1972 Sanyo G-2601kca music centre I saved from the skip a few days ago.

Mine is marked C123.A.1 and is a 120v 60Hz model retrofitted with a 50Hz motor pulley (the 60Hz pulley is still in the accessory/tape holder bin.

Interesting variant- as a child I 'inherited' the G2601K which was the same but having a 2 speed, idler Sanyo single play deck. The amp on these is amazing.

iI also have another Sanyo G-2601 with the 2 speed single play deck, these seem to be more common than the ones fitted with BSR changers.

Mine is fitted with a strange unmarked low output ceramic cartridge with a really soft and compliant rubber cantilever saddle, this cartridge is mechanically similar to a regular BSR SX5 cartridge, but it's obviously not an original BSR part.

One thing iI don't like with the Sanyo decks is that you need to manually disengage the idler wheel after each use by putting the speed selector knob in the "off" position. The problem is, few people actually did that and so these decks are almost always found with dented idler wheels today.

The BSR decks automatically disengage the idler wheel whenever the function lever is in the off position instead.

Your cartridge may well be the sanyo one that uses STG 5/6 - pic attached - looks quite BSR, in fact I once successfully 'filed down' a BSR ST17 to fit it! minimal work needed.

The 2601K came with a ceramic cartridge with the ST6D stylus. It looks like a magnetic type. Pic attached for those who aren't too familiar. The arm also looks like it has a counterweight but in reality it is just eye candy!

You are right about those idlers, a terrible design on Sanyo's part.

The G2611 looked almost identical, but seemd to have a slightly better arm/headshell, cue lever and magnetic cartridge.
