A quick google suggests Silvertone seem to have made some similar units with BSRs. You may have to try looking under all the big US names: Sears, Zenith, Sylvania, Voice of Music, Philco, etc.

A Photofact wiring diagram for an Olympic model looks like a match. That is the only image I've seen that looks close to my console and the model number 223 probably means they are the same or subvariants. Thanks the input to help identify this console.
Funny that Photofact was published by Howard W. Sams & Co., based out of Indianapolis, where I currently live. I guess the answer to my question was right here all along. I ended up purchasing a nice, inexpensive copy of that Photofact on eBay for future reference. |

That is the cutest lil record player. Thanks for posting the pictures.

I have seen a Westinghouse that looked very much like this. Interesting that there is no identification on it. Maybe some stick-on badge fell off? |

If the model number starts with C, it is a record changer. If it starts with P, it is single-play. If your C-series deck doesn't have an overarm, it uses an umbrella spindle.

Yes I thought that.... Although it could be one of the later "Glenburn" changers that were actually made by BSR, when Dr. McDonald proprietor of "Glenburn", re-joined BSR and merged Glenburn with BSR. They continued making them with the "Glenburn" mechanics, until the parts were used up, and later "Glenburn's" had BSR mechanics fitted, but modified slightly to continue the use of the rotary control-knobs as in the picture. Once the orders for Glenburn autochangers had been completed, the Glenburn name and changers were discontinued.

The BSR-Glenburn hybrid deck is the BSR C180, the photos clearly show BSR components. For comparison, I have added an internet image of a Glenburn deck with its customary orange cam follower. I'm still after a stack spindle for mine!

Wow! That was a long time ago, no wonder I couldn't find it easily.
Bad quote in post #208 fixed.

The generally accepted progression of quality, from lowest to highest of the normal brands was BSR, Collaro, Garrard, & (just) Dual. I never warmed to Collaro for some reason & quite liked BSR. We occasionally had special orders for other, more exotic brands. |

Ironic though, that the “shoddy tat”, from BSR seems to have lasted rather longer than the more pretentious stuff from Garrard and Collaro!

Dear Participants in this thread, either new or for 20 years:
I wonder if there is a "fairly" comprehensive list with photos and relevant information of the BSR products made during the company history. It seems there must have been several hundred variations of BSR products as every time I search an auction site with the generic terms "record player" or "turntable", I spot another variation of a BSR product. Some expert in BSR history ad products must have gathered hundreds of photos of the models, their model numbers, dates in production, etc and could make a very useful website all about BSR. I just recently acquired my first RCA 45 player and purchased "The Fabulous Victrola 45" book by Phil Vourtsis to get up to speed on the history and photos of the various models, all beautifully collected in one place. Publishing a book about BSR is an expensive proposition, but a comprehensive website would be a wonderful resource. Another interest of mine is pinball machines and those in the hobby all appreciate the Internet Pinball Resource website for a wealth of photos and information. This thread is very interesting, but it would be great to put all this accumulated knowledge into one place with high resolution photos and documents. Thanks. |

Thanks Graham. I have a dozen BSR made changers which are all quite common, but if someone organizes an "Internet BSR Resource" website I will contribute photos.

I toyed with the idea of using all the pictures and IDs in this thread to make an "at a glance" identification page, but never got far with it.
