My Sectric has lain unused for maybe 15 years and its rotor has almost fully demagnetized. Has anyone had success remagnetising pls?

Hello and welcome.
Could you post some pictures, please? The "Sectric" branding was used from the 1930s right through to the 1970s. Nick. |

A few pix. Any advice on weak motor gratefully received - I'm loathe to replace the entire mechanism

That is the Bijou movement, which is usually reliable. It may just need a service and lube, I would try that first, please don’t ‘quartz’ it!

Sadly no. With the motor removed, apply power and it doesn’t start. Given it a helping twiddle and it spins, but barely enough torque to keep turning. I conclude the rotor needs remagnetising, but how best to do?

With the motor removed from the gear train, the rotor can be spun freely by hand. There is virtually no mechanical resistance as the rotor poles pass the stator shields. Unsurprisingly therefore, when power is applied, the motor won't start. Apply a hand twiddle and it keeps turning, but with barely enough torque to sustain rotation
