Anyone know what this bit of equipment is used for ?
I am having a sort out here and have no idea where this came from.
The only photo on the net I could find was on an auction site and this was bundled with an A10 canopy and set tester.
An intercom set ?

On the auction site it was listed under tractors, so could it be some kind of intercom between farm and driver. The equipment in the photo beside it on that site looked to be much too complex for any kind of tractor in my mind, but I could well be wrong.
Possibly a tank intercom. They can be very noisy.

Link does not work for me but Auction photo posted below. Auction site is in AZ. USA, so the A10 connection ,mentioned on the site, could be the A10 ''Warthog'' .

One of the images shows the makers nameplate "Leyton Instrument Co. Ltd"

I found this from 1968

Audiology equipment has the headphones coloured red and blue for left and right. Given that its called a 'converser' it could be a simple mic amplifier to drive headphones. In use possibly to determine how much amplification is needed for each ear. There are two, what look like, power amp transistors with heatsinks on the top left of the PCB.

If in the auction, it was a part of the other USAF equipment, then it could have been used for an engineer to converse with another engineer , or pilot, in the cockpit. If I can read any of the transistor part numbers that could tell where is was made. Just curious. Pity it did not arrive with the other item in the link photos. Now that would be interesting.

Most auction sites lump anything vaguely technical together so its not surprising that this is with other unrelated stuff. From the construction I would say it has nothing to do with aviation or military as the quality is not good enough for either of these sectors. Its probably made by a small company for a unique purpose related to audiology. I suggest that its not an intercom as its construction lends itself to be used on a bench and not in a vehicle. So an a hearing aid test set or similar.

I'm convinced you're right Malcolm because of the company details I found, plus the red and green labels on the volume controls that you pointed out.
I can imagine it being used in a classroom situation.

We've come a long way though, I was privileged to meet a profoundly deaf girl aged about 4, her mother wore a discreet mic on a head band, and could transmit her voice to the girl's hearing aids even if she was out of sight in another room.
