"battleship grey" paint - best source ?
I'm looking to match the paint of a typical 30's EKCO grey chassis. I always think of it as 'battleship grey'
I bought a can of something from my local stockists but its too blue/grey. The EKCO colour is leaning toward slighlty green/grey. Does anyone have a maker/reference number for a good match ? Otherwise I'll have to unbolt the tranny and heave it down to the shops with me ! Thanks Andy |

You could consider Humbrol and/or Railmatch paints as used by modellers, especially those interested in model ships and model railways. A search will bring up both brands.
The various grey paints used by modellers dry with a 'proper' matt grey finish, whereas such paints supplied by the likes of B&Q tend to dry with a slightly silvery-green hue. Most model shops (as opposed to toyshops) stock a range of Humbrol and Railmatch products and several shades of grey are available. They come in aerosol cans or small pots; one pot should just be enough to do a radio chassis. You'll find, too, that these paints will dry without leaving brush marks - if you go for the brush option of course. Word of warning though; Railmatch paints stink until they've dried |

I used to go to a trade motor paint factors who would make up any colour you wanted. Take along a sample.
Available in cellulose or "Transport 383-polyurethane

If you want a spray paint, Tim's suggestion is probably best. For brushing paints, one of the wholesale paint distributors such as Crown or Dulux Trade Centres can offer a similar facility and I've found the staff at all the branches I've used very helpful.

Autopaint (franchised all over UK) will do what Tim is suggesting in #3, and they are not too expensive.
