I would have to disagree on that one. I'm not a fan of catalin radios, although some are not too bad. Josh.

Hi Tony,

I'd say it's a glorious looking set.

What is it?

Regards,

Brian, I must say you have good taste,

I bought this set from the well known auction site a couple of years ago, the seller had bought it from France.

The name on it is Lux Electro radio, I did extensive searches at the time and the best I came back with was that it was a home made/kit job sold in France in the 50's.

When it arrived (just wrapped in brown paper).....it had damage to the front and the GZ41 valve was bust, I managed to get a replacement valve and repaired the case damage.

I have stripped the case (quite thin but interesting veneer) and refinished it. I had to source new mirror bits for the front of the knobs. I had to order 20....so if you need any let me know...it is a basic set but sounds really good in my opinion, and turns a few heads.

Cheers,
Tony.

I'd certainly make space for it. Nice repair job, too!
What is on the band "BE2" and "BE1"?

From the dial I'd guess these are SW bandspreads ('Bande Extendee?') (Can't do the accents on this keyboard )

Why is everyone so down on French radios?

Maybe I should drag the two Frenchie portables I have and photograph them. They're actually kinda cute looking.

Gentlemen,

There is no such thing as an "ugly" radio.

All radios were created beautifully!

Here is my contibution, and no, I do not think it's ugly!

No, not ugly at all Quite the opposite.

It just reminds me of the robot priest from Futurama, a US amimated show created by the creator of The Simpsons.

It must be my love of French cars but I think French radios are gorgeous, especially the one posted by rigsby 27. Things French are an acquired taste I guess..

Nastiest-looking set? How about the Aerodyne 301AC? - sorry I haven't got a picture . So ugly it finished off a company previously known for its basic but attractively-designed cabinets!

Cheers,
Neil

For me it has to be a GEC transistor set with 2 big knobs and a rexine covering and not much else, fortunately I don't have a photo

I've asked my BC502 and BC505, but neither has any idea which GEC model you could possibly be thinking of
