In 2020 "31% of radio 4 listeners used LW" says the BBC

Since then "numbers have dropped off and we predict they will continue to do so" Too right they will, as you are slowly turning off all the transmitters.

Out of interest, where did you get that statistic? If 31% of listeners were still on LW in 2020 then that is amazing!

There are no plans to cease R4 transmissions on LW, it's the opt-out programmes like Test Match Special and Yesterday in Parliament which will be discontinued in April, moving to R5, or to 4 Extra on DAB

I expect that it's to get more folk used to using other means of listening to what up to now were for them LW-only services before final cessation on 198. There's probably quite a bit of politics re. fringe areas and coverage to iron out in the meantime.

As a regular LW listener ,at least I won't have to switch to FM when the cricket is on.

I thought I'd read somewhere in a BBC release that total 998 kc/s shutdown would come in the 2nd quarter of 2024. If so, hardly a significant reprieve...
