Ultras on screen.
Hi,
Just a bit of nonesense on my part, but has anyone noticed how often the Ultra 'Coronation Twin' radio appears in films & TV programs of the fifties & sixties? I've just watched the film 'The Smallest Show On Earth' (1957) and there's one visible near the end. (For interest, there's also a much older 'cathedral' type radio in the office of 'The Bijou' kinema earlier on.) I've also spotted them in 'The Saint', 'The Champions', 'The Avengers', as well as 'The Green Man' (1956) - where a couple of them were blown up -, among other productions. It's almost as ubiquitous as the Bush DAC90. Cheers, Pete.

Product-placement?
Or was there perhaps an Ultra-dealer just round the corner from the studios and it was the nearest place for the set-dressers to go when the director said "Get us some radios...?" |

Re: Ultras on screen.
Hi,
Probably the latter, I wouldn't be surprised. Unless there were a couple in the props dept. I switched on Talking Pictures TV this morning and, lo and behold, there's another one in another 50s black & white comedy film. This time, someone was actually 'listening' to it until they switched it off using the tuning knob! Cheers, Pete.
