Speaker grille material identification - Please help
Hi all.
I have some old speakers but the grille is damaged. I'm trying to source this type of material. The speakers are from the 60's. From what I can tell it's a nylon type weave. I'm trying to find out what type of material it is, what it's called, where it's from and if it's still available in another form. Or... if anyone here has any they would sell? I'd need 2m x 1m. Any colour. Thanks |

Take a look at Retrospecialist.co.uk, they have a selection of speaker clothes etc. I have used them on several occasions, Russell is now in charge his father Sid has retired.

Hi John.
Thanks, I'll send them an email. I can't find anything like it on the net but I suppose that doesn't mean it's no longer produced. |

Hi , if you take a look on their web page you can see some of the material they have on offer.
I’m not able to say what your fabric is, sorry. Cheers John |

Re: Speaker grille material identification - Please help
Hi
Are these guitar or PA speakers by any chance? I ask because I have a couple of Carlsbro vintage cabinets and the speaker material looks very similar. It's a very heavy nylon type, much stronger than radio type cloth. If that's the case I think the Radio Specialist cloths would probably not be suitable. I'm afraid I don't know of a source of the heavier type if this is what is needed, apologies if I've got it wrong! We have some amp specialists on here who may be able to help.

You could also take a look at, corrienmass.nl, in Holland. As I understand she can make to your requirements, I have not actually ordered from this site but I think other forum members have done so, worth a try.

Re: Speaker grille material identification - Please help
There was someone at last years NVCF who had a roll of some very similar looking stuff for sale, if anyone else remembers this we might be able to track it down!

Re: Speaker grille material identification - Please help
When I was restoring a SUG61, I bought some cloth from the Netherlands - as I understand they can even weave it to a sample. Not cheap, but handy if you want a good, solid cloth for a hard-to-find original.

Have you looked at the Ted Weber website? They do a variety of grille-cloths that might be close to what you want.
https://www.tedweber.com/cabinet-covering/ Ok, they deal with guitar amplifiers, but maybe there's something to interest you. I am a satisfied customer, so I can confirm that there's some good stuff there. Colin. |

Another possibility is Kendrick amplifiers:
http://www.kendrick-amplifiers.com/m...gory_Code=0606 Again, guitar amplifiers and also in the USA. I initially thought Wilmslow Audio might be worth looking at, but they have a very limited range. Colin. |

Speaker grille material identification - Please help
Hi all... again.
I hope you guys don't mind me starting this thread again. I posted one last year but nothing came to anything and I'm still looking for this illusive speaker cloth. I have some old speakers but the grille is damaged. I'm trying to source this type of material. The speakers are from the 60's or maybe 70's. From what I can tell it's a nylon type weave. I'm trying to find out what type of material it is, what it's called, where it's from and if it's still available in another form. Or... if anyone here has (or maybe knows somebody) any they would sell? I'd need 2x 2m x 1m. Any colour, don't mind. Thanks Attached Thumbnails |

I think the style is called basket weave. Similar to https://www.tubeampdoctor.com/en/gri...tection-fabric
