Anyone tell me what this is?
This is interesting.
Siemens Halske Ohmeter LMP2. Nice Nazi insignia. I have no date but another website says 1928. Was the swastika in use then? David

Re: Anyone tell me what this is?
Looks a simple and robust, as far as bakelite can be, item, and I expect it stayed in production for several years, with minor changes if any. State (as opposed to party) use of the eagle and swastika symbol only began in 1935.

Re: Anyone tell me what this is?
I'd question "nice Nazi insignia".

Re: Anyone tell me what this is?
There is one listed in the Radiomuseum as it happens, another website says its called a fortress Ohmmeter and was issued to communications troops.

Re: Anyone tell me what this is?
It looks to be engraved, maybe the case was used for several instruments. With engraving, the nazi symbolism could have been easily added in later production.
Some odd people collect stuff with those markings. They pay even sillier prices than normal for old Leica cameras with such markings, to the point where fakes have appeared. David

At least I would hope that's what was meant. However I am too young to have experienced the war and I know my parents and grandparents would likely have taken a different view. Cheers Mike T

Re: Anyone tell me what this is?
Of course thats whatni mean. Nice and crisp, a clean imprint. Seems to be embossed.takes a 4.5v flat battery. Im not sure what the device was used for...the scale doesnt seem big enough for actually measuring with finesse so maybe its gross checks on a circuit? (A coms circuit not an electrical one)

Re: Anyone tell me what this is?
There are certainly ever more period instruments with fake Waffenamt/NSDAP markings, cynically produced for greater (perceived) value.
I'm not saying this one IS a fake, but the engraving is suspiciously crisp, and i am surprised to see it in such a prominent location...they tend to be tucked away somewhere more subtle. Demands further research to be sure. Dave |

Re: Anyone tell me what this is?
Have a look at the historic scratches in the Bakelite.
At 800X600 definition we would need to see several sharp close ups of the whole of the engraving at three characters per shot. We will then be able to see if the scratches go through the engraving or not. This will establish if the scratches came before the engraving or after. |

Re: Anyone tell me what this is?
I will take photos but knowing where this was and who owned it I'd be most surprised if it's a fake. At least not a fake deliberately posed as genuine. More likely just genuine. It was in his cupboard along with an old and tatty AVO and a few other bits but this caught my eye because I have never seen such a bit of kit. Only saw the swastika when I got it home.

Re: Anyone tell me what this is?
It's quite certainly a real Siemens Ohmmeter. Most probably it's had the swastika and eagle since new.
You probably wouldn't want to meet the sort of people that aspect would attract. I just commented on the fakery rife in early Leica cameras as an illustration of the demand for things with nazi markings, and a mark-up in prices such that fakers thought it worth their while. David
