Default Quad Dustcovers

Well I finally finished rebulding a pair of Quad II's, and decided that these would be 'keepers', so wanted to protect them from dirt and dust especially around the sub chassis area which is difficult to get at.

I got these acrylic covers made, and they fit a treat! Obviously they are removed when in use due to the heat, but these amps are only used occasionally, so it's no hardship.

They are a thing of true beauty - both the amps and the covers!

I am starting a book, "How long will it be before Pete forgets to take them off!" Starting at 10:1 in a year.

Ha! Yes, that's my biggest worry, especially if the grandkids flick the mains on when I'm not around. Maybe I should set up some sort of perimeter alarm?

How about an "inverse safety interlock" where the lids both need to be in a thing to enable the mains? Thinks... a tray holding both lids with two microswitches. It could be called "The ACME Quad(tm) lid-off-O-switch", you have to put them somewhere when they are not in use anyway.

Thanks Merlin, I'll patent the idea and split any profits 50/50.

Hi Mick, they're called Striking Displays, they do enclosures for shop displays and trophys etc. You just input your dimensions into their website and get an instant quote. The dimensional accuracy was spot on.

I'm thinking of using again for my SET amp.

Absolutely lovely. I had an acrylic lid made by a professional company to use with my custom made wooden plinth for my Garrard 401. They have the tooling and the knowledge to do a much better job than we can do at home. Unfortunately my job was done through a friend many years ago so I am unable to pass on any details should anyone be thinking of asking. But you need to find a company that makes fittings and panels etc for exhibitions and retail display use.

They look good but do you need to take any precautions to stop them attracting their own dust if they build up any stray electrostatic charge?

Yes Chris, I use antistatic spray and microfibre cloth, it attracts some dust, but it's better than leaving it open and exposed I reckon.

There IS a missed trick. It would have been awfully elegant to have had the top and the two smaller sides done as one piece of bent perspex, aping the transformer covers with their curved upper edges. More work, but special!

That would certainly look very neat and elegant. Not sure is anyone online could craft such a think though.

Glad it turned out ok for you Simon!

Yes, the cost of different radii or curves would be prohibitive.
