HT power supply
Thought this might be of interest. 12v step up for valve sets, this will be the core of my power supply for the Marconi kestrel and Collins TCS TX/RX sets. 12v 300w Chinese inverter board with a 625va 2404/415 panel transformer. Tappings primary 0/240/415 secondary 0/12/24/48/110/240. Any 12/0/12 transformer could be used to give the required current and voltage.

Re: HT power supply
Well that works, I would be interested in the results on load with a rectifier and smoother post transformer.

Re: HT power supply
An intriguing idea - will be following with interest.
I'm wondering what frequency the inverter 'likes' to run at? If it's too high then the transformer may behave more like a centre-tapped choke, with significant loss-of-efficiency. (my last 'big inverter' experiments were three-phase, using three old colour-TV LOPTs suitably rewound, a sort-of CMOS ring-counter to provide the 120-degree-phased drive, and six 2N3711 transistors. It did 300mA@1KV without problems] |

Re: HT power supply
The boards are ment for 50hz to work with a 12/0/12 mains transformer , stepping up to 240v 300w.

Re: HT power supply
I used a cheap (<£10!) Chinese square wave inverter to provide the 500V at 100W for an AJAX marine transmitter (the original had been removed). It runs at 20kHz so needs fast diodes for the rectifier but claims to be good for 500W (with added heat sinking). Generates lot of interference, of course, but that's not a problem as it's only powered on transmit. There still seem to be plenty available in the usual place.
