Unilab variable power supply
These are 28 years old, not sure if that counts as vintage!
Recently aquired 3 of these (ex schools chemistry lab) but have found next to nothing on the web. They seem very basic, big lump of a transformer, a mini "variac" and half a dozen components. Could the "variac" be used on its own, within it's limit 0-220V @ 1.4A ? Any info or suggestions gratefully received. Thanks Martin

Re: Unilab variable power supply
It's a mains voltage variac, and it was used to adjust the mains voltage into the big fixed ratio transformer, so it could be used on its own. The output won't be isolated from the incoming mains, of course, it's a variable autotransformer.

Re: Unilab variable power supply
Sounds like an eminently useful find and with one-into-two potential- the variac with a good rating to cover most vintage radios (if not thirstier things like TVs) already in a safe metal enclosure, and a transformer with the capability to become the heart of a 0-20V 5A bench supply. Nice one.
