Now perhaps that's why mine is sluggish to read infinite, the voltage is down a bit and I did see some leakage on the cap. I'll whip it out and see what happens.

My 1000v 100nf wouldn't fit so I used a pair 0f 100nf 650v in series. The lower value seems to make no odds, 532v easily obtained, thanks for the info, it's fixed!

Mine has C-R in series with the movement. I swapped the C, and I now get 500v too. So thanks from me as well!
