Can some one help me identify this radio please?
Can some one help me identify this radio please? It is a part of a console, the only information on it is McCarthy London.
Thank you. |

Re: Can some one help me identify this radio please?
If the valve like object is a B7G type, this looks like a 6 valve Superhet with an RF stage noting the 3 gang tuning cap. Dates from c.1948. McCarthy were a small producer of radios and radiograms and were not heard of much after 1950.

Re: Can some one help me identify this radio please?
It seems that more McCarthy chassis were exported than sold in the UK in any form, but at least the brand is a recognised one, used for the products of Felgate Radio Ltd. , and some service information is available.
The valves on the chassis appear to be one all-glass miniature, probably B7G base, three with loctal (B8B) bases and two octals. That fairly unusual combination would fit with the 1951-2 McCarthy range, for which data is available here, http://www.service-data.com/section....51-1952-models . In those chassis, which include the MW-SW1-SW2 waveband option that yours appears to have, the valves are 9D6, 7S7, 7B7, 7C6 and 6V6, with a U50 rectifier. If those are more or less the ones fitted, the data there is very likely to be right for your set. Regards, Paul Last edited by Paul_RK; 24th Apr 2017 at 10:33 am. |
