Default Hitachi TRK 8080E

I recently found my Grandmothers old boombox!... it didnt work. All the belts had literally melted. However, i found a belt set and fitted. On replacing the PCB i noticed a thin metal link type piece.

Looks like a staple to me. Probably nothing to worry about.

Thanks OldTechFan96.

Yes I was thinking that last night. Tried a tape but it just clicks. Think I need to strip the mechanism right down. Oh joy!. Any advice?

You can download the service manual from HiFi Engine here.

Since the cassette mechanism is not engaging when the play button is pressed I think that some dried grease is fouling the mechanism. Remove the cassette mechanism and give it a thorough inspection outside the boombox. Take note of what the assembly does when play is pushed. You might be able to tell if it is not engaging properly.
