Default Sonotone 9TA Cartridge wanted for Garrard 3500

Hi,

My 14 yr old daughter has been really been getting into her vinyl since I restored the Bush SP51 that she has. Unfortunately the cartridge has broken - the support under the stylus has snapped. Does anyone have one they want to sell?

Hi.
If you manage to find a working one or replace with a different one can I have your broken 9TA as I have one that has had two tag connectors broken off the rear and would like to attempt to make one good out of two broken.
Cheers.
Gaz.

Sadly the majority of these carts are beyond repair through age. You will be better off replacing it with a similar output stereo ceramic such as the chuo denshi clones available for pence online, or a BSR SC11 or SC12. Some creativity is needed in fitting, as are some new slide on tags.

Thanks ben. I just ordered an el-cheapo at £2.38 and will attempt to graft it on. Shouldn't be too hard. My daughter is very thankful to be saving about £40 without the risk of a NOS Sonotone breaking.

search the forum for mounting ideas, some members have come up with some great home made bracket and fixing solutions!

These carts sound as good as the older ceramics to me. The version with the plastic shank and sapphire tip is best avoided though.

I got a suitable mounting bracket, £7, from “Get the Needle”, which cost three times the price of cartridge! As Ben says members have fabricated their own brackets.
Cheers

I've got a 9TA. The stylus feels "compliant" but I can't test it. There is a used 4-way connector plugged into the back. The stylus is flip-over with 78 printed on one side but nothing on the other. The two look like microgroove and 78 styli.

I have no use for this and will post to you. If it is functional, a donation of postage cost would be welcome. Let me know if you are interested.

Regards,
Steve.
