Default Toa Radio mic

Following from this 'Vintage Technology' thread https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=127942. I contacted Toa and enquired if I could buy a crystal from them. Their reply was that although they had two in stock there minimum order quantity was two and minimum order value was £50:00 and there would be postage on top of that, but they then carried on to say that as the set was ancient if I gave them my address then he would put one in the post FOC. Excellent company.
The crystal duly arrived and was fitted and with a small tweak on the tuning coil it worked. The manual describes the setting up of the multiplier stages by putting a spectrum analyser on the out put and adjusting each stage in turn for maximum output with minimum unwanted signals. As I don't have a spectrum analyser I couldn't use that method so I reverted to a method I used to align my old 2M TX. This was a search coil and diode/capacitor coupled to a scope. Loosely coupling the coil to the aerial I could make small adjustments to the multiplier chain and final aerial tuning capacitor so maximizing the output. Since it was only the crystal I had changed the chain did actually need any adjustment.

So even equipment with surface-mount devices is now considered ancient, is it? I hadn't realised how old I was getting! But what a great response from the company. We used a Toa 'music on hold' unit in the 1990s and I seem to recall that it was very reliable.

Sorry but I can't seem to get either link to work; I get an error message and a blank page, but it could be my computer.

That's heartwarming to hear. TOA took over one of the last UK radio mic companies a while ago (BBM Trantec). It's nice to know they still care! TOA have always had a good reputation for PA equipment.

edit: I cant get the image links to work either
