Default Re: Noisy Hacker Sovereign II

I've had several of these super radios to work on recently, tow had issues with the Bass, both boiled down to the amplifier.

1. First Sovereign II would motorboat if the bass control was turned up. that boiled down to being high resistance betwen the amp and the umbilical cord connector. They are hard to clean, but it seems to be a weak point on these radios.

2. Second Sovereign II had no Bass response from the control. The previous repairer (?) had decided not to clean the board or connctor, but to solder the connection up! This had not solved the problem. Once this had been desoldered and cleaned up the problem persisted. It ended up being C8 or C9 (memory fade) being of the wrong value 0.4 rather than 40 (possibly from new?).

These are such nice sounding radios when right. Although with batteries they are almost at the limit of portablilty.
