FT690 vfo knob fault
More accurately, a rotary encoder fault. The 690 works perfectly apart from the main dial won't change the freq at all - the mic buttons will.
I seem to recall there being a thread on the FTX90 series rotary encoders but can't find it. Anyone got any thoughts? I did look for a hard reset but can't find one, though I do think its an encoder fault.

Re: FT690 vfo knob fault
The FT-690 doesnt have an MCU controlling it like modern rigs, so there is no reset capability as such. Its far more likely that either the connections to the encoder are at fault (look for cracked tracks/PCB, dry joints etc, usual stuff) or the encoder is dirty inside.
Can you look at the encoder pins with a 'scope? you might be able to see what the encoder is doing. I dont know if these are sealed or not, if not you might be able to clean it out. Ive had success with the smaller rotary encoders that are sealed but will dismantle.

Re: FT690 vfo knob fault
Thanks guys.
I did wonder about the master reset facility...I could never find it on my old FT101 either, apart from pulling the plug out that is ...
