Default Quick Philips radio ident

Hello all

A colleague has sent me a picture of a radio he's come across and I just want to work out what model it is.

Sorry that he picture is a bit blurred. However I can report that it has Long, Medium and two Short bands as well as a PU input.

I am sure that it's not a particularly spectacular model, but would be interested in finding out a bit more for him. I'm hoping he'll get it serviced and start using it.

Martin

It looks a little similar to this one, but not quite the same.

Hello again

I have met the radio now, and it turns out to be a B51F72A.

So that's that mystery solved. However I can't seem to find service data - does it exist or is it possible that with the radio being from Ireland the data is available, but under a different name.

Or have I just made a hash of searching for it?

Martin

It's actually B5IF72A and its Spanish sister is B5E72A.

Try a PM to maitiustandun, it's his radio in Radiomuseum, he may or may not have the data.

IF = Irish Free State, which was the original name of the ROI before they severed all links with the monarchy.

Thank you.

I also spotted one on there owned by another member from here.

The bottom of the radio is missing and it looks well put together underneath.

It came back from Ireland this week and I am sure that the Radiomuseum listing I saw listed it as an Irish model.

Could be that it was an export model.

It was owned by my friend's mother and now that he has brought it back I feel I should get it going. I know enough to do the usual checks and at least make things no worse if it is dead... He knows not to plug it in... not that he can.

I suspect with a few things like a plug with square pins (it still had a round pinned Duraplug on and what looks to me like speaker wire for the mains) and a check of the usual suspects it will work.

Chances are, it was built in Ireland. The origin letters for that factory are PE which may or may not be in front of the serial number (smaller factories sometimes omitted the origin letters and had a numerals only serial number).
