Forum member 'mehrantahir'
I have received a PM from someone called 'mehrantahir', who doesn't appear in the members list. He/she is asking about capacitors having a resistance of 1000T ohms (presumably 1000 Teraohms(?) supposedly for a capacitive voltage divider. Now it's not April 1st., but I cannot imagine that such capacitors exist, or think of any application which would need such a component. I've tried to reply to the PM, but apparently Private Messages cannot be sent to 'mehrantahir' Can someone explain what's going on here?

Re: Forum member 'mehrantahir'
Such specialist capacitors are used in voltage dividers to measure extremely high voltages. Low leakage is essential. I was quite surprised to find this in the uni high voltage lab (Which did work on >100kV distribution gear.)
Probably a rather esoteric interest to have... David

Re: Forum member 'mehrantahir'
How can a banned member send a PM in the first place?
Is it possible to reply to such a message? Is this hacking territory

Re: Forum member 'mehrantahir'
He's just awaiting confirmation of his location, nothing sinister. PMs were enabled to allow the Restoration Services Wanted section to function, this is an unintended side effect.
Questions are supposed to be asked in the Forum, for the benefit of all members. PMs are really intended for personal information not suitable for public display. |
