R209 IF-out socket connector?
Now that I've got my R209Mk.2 working nicely using my homebrew mains-PSU [observation: regulating the heaters with a LM340-12 really cuts down on local-oscillator drift] I'm wanting to use the low-impedance "IF Out" socket for experimenting with things like product-detectors, PLLs, linear-detectors and outboard audio-stages.
But - what is the required connector to mate with the R209's IF outlet? And where can I get one? I could always replace it with a TNC.... |

I think I've got at least one of these plugs but can't remember the gender. Could you put up a photo of the socket?

Re: R209 IF-out socket connector?
I'll post a photo later today.
My suspicion is that it is a "Pattern 12" connector as shown here: https://www.harc.org.uk/?page=technical&sub=connectors which was used by various obscure bits of RACAL gear too. |

Pattern 12 is what I have, I'll await your pic for confirmation.

Here are a couple of photos of the offending socket, with a pound-coin alongside for reference.

Yes, I can help with a plug, it has a moulded termination with a 12" coax cable tail.
Send me a P/M with your postal address and I'll post it off. 73 Roger |

Re: R209 IF-out socket connector?
Thanks for the offer of assistance Roger, but there's no need for you to go to any troubel after all: I've rediscovered a cache of the things in my attic! Seems that at the time I acquired them I thought they were some sort of American-style connector so they ended up in a tray marked "US Coax plugs".
Does anyone know who designed/made these? Apart from a part-number - "054 0155" or "054 0153" there's no other marking, which is odd. |

Re: R209 IF-out socket connector?
Looks like I have similar markings on my plug but can't quite make out the full number. Anyway, I have various plugs and sockets of the same type if anyone needs any.

Re: R209 IF-out socket connector?
On Racal Ra17(L) and the PYE/Reesmace Cat 619 receiver and the AVO signalgenerator the socket for antenna input, and AVO signal output is made by Burndept. Looking to the interconnecting coax cables inside the Racal Ra17(L) you'll discover the pattern 12 sockets and plugs. They just look like small ones made by Burndept. Its a wildguess i know. Looking to the pattern 12 and Burndept shown in the document.
