Hi Brychan,

I have always understood that the change came about in 1927, and just checking
Teleprinter on Wiki seems to confirm this. I cant imagine that the change was overnight though.

Kind regards

The attachment seems to support Dave's opinion. Ken.

The change did take quite a while! The last morse circuits were between the post offices in Barra and South Uist in 1955 !! At that time the others were connected to the TASS (Teleprinter Automatic Switching System) network which had opened in 1932. Once 'Telex' system opened in the 1950's , the TASS network was used for 'defence' purposes - still run by the GPO but serving military/RAF locations.

Back in the late 1960's I remember finding some old pre war TG series diagrams with a switch marked Teleprinter/Morse.
