Default Loudspeaker repair ?

Thought Id give my speakers a polish, as you do on a Saturday night. Noticed one of the bass driver foams has come detached nearly all the way round (it also has a small crack in it)
I've ordered a replacement from Wharfedale but was wondering on the feasibility of repairing it as a spare? I'm thinking along the lines of superglue applied with a needle or similar but I'm sure someone on here will have some useful advice

I would use a flexible adhesive such as EvoStik or a rubber adhesive. Superglue tends to set solid unless you use one the specialist types.

You can purchase new speaker surrounds.

There are many other sources.

There are also YouTube tutorials on how to replace them.

Cheers

The crack and the tear suggest that the rubber has 'rotted' with age plus environmental exposure. The other bass driver will go the same way in due course so you either need to replace both drivers or repair them both as indicated by Mike.

Don't mess around, just get some new surrounds. Most sizes and materials are readily available.

My K040 midrange drive units are pretty much irreplaceable, so I went into it with a bit of trepidation, but it was actually quite easy and completely successful.

One evil trick I thought up was to drill three small holes in the dust cap to come out inside the voice coil former. I inserted three short lengths of copper wire, trying larger sizes until they locked and centred the voice coil in the gap. This meant the speaker was correctly aligned as the glue on the new surround set. Once firm, out came the wire and three little blobs of glue made my holes vanish.

Cleaning the old glue off of the basket is the time consuming part.
