Replacement Drive Cord Pulley Wheels
Hi,
does anyone know where to obtain substitute replacement drive cord pulley wheels. Unfortunately this afternoon, whilst tuning my Pye P75, the dial drive kept slipping. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be one of the dial cord pulley wheels, which had literally begun to disintegrate. I suspect this is in large part due to it being situated right next to one of the dial bulbs. The plastic that it was made from had gone extemely brittle and 'crumbly', I suspect from a combination of age and heat. Ian. |

Hi Ian, if you have access to a lathe they can be easily turned up.
Failing that an ad in the wanted section (with a pic) should enable one to be found in the collective spares boxes. Ed |

Re: Replacement Drive Cord Pulley Wheels
Maybe a short tube or a few small washers with larger diameter washers either side all soldered together?
Perhaps a dead cassette deck (audio or video) might yield some likely pulleys? And maybe........ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5DUvlhhjEI

Re: Replacement Drive Cord Pulley Wheels
Hi Mike,
it's just over 11mm in diameter. Brass would be good, as it would not age in the same way as plastic does - from the heat off the dial bulb. regards Ian. |

Re: Replacement Drive Cord Pulley Wheels
I have a scrap DAC90/A or two around here if the pulleys are likely to be similar you'd be welcome to them.

Re: Replacement Drive Cord Pulley Wheels
-Got the pulley wheels from Mike this morning, but thanks Ed for the offer.
Thanks Mike - the pulley wheel just needed enlarging of the central bore, so it would fit on the pulley wheel shaft, which is 2BA in size. The radio tuning mechanism now works perfectly, if anything even smoother. And of course being of brass they should last for many years to come. Ian. |
