Default Philips BX355U dropper

Any idea what I can replace this broken voltage dropper with. The service sheet shows resistors 2,3&4 as per pictures

Hi Nukey, the circular resistor is an RS "section", very popular for this type of replacement in the day.
I may have something suitable so give me a call if you are stuck.

I made up a replacement for the dropper in my Philips B2X67U out of several 7-Watt ceramic "coffin" resistors fitted around the original ceramic-tube support (whose windings I cut away).

Seems to work fine, though it's in no way a thing of beauty!

Doesn't sound any worse than a bunch of Radiospares ceramic polos....

When RS was Radiospares, they sold replacement droppers for such radios. There must be one languishing in a workshop somewhere, and they do occasionally surface on eBay. The "Polo" sections replaced them eventually, grow your own droppers.

The proper way for us was to mount them on a secured length of threaded rod, I did a few back in the day, I forget the thread size, might have been 2BA, that was a workshop job, often done to replace a field repair job of dropper sections growing a la grape style.

Lawrence.

Yes 2BA threaded rod, I found sections extremely reliable.
